Luxury Vinyl Tile, Luxury Vinyl Planks, and Sheet Vinyl - What’s the Difference?

LVP, LVT, and sheet vinyl flooring are all excellent flooring options for your home. The flexibility and durability of vinyl flooring means it can be installed in nearly every room of a home, including above-grade and below-grade.

There are a variety of styles and designs available for sheet vinyl flooring, luxury vinyl tile, and luxury vinyl plank.

Luxury Vinyl Tile

Luxury vinyl tile resembles the look of real stone. The addition of adding grout to the fill between the seams helps add to the overall authenticity of the tile. A large selection of colors and designs will help you find a look that fits in your home.

Luxury Vinyl Plank

Luxury vinyl plank provides the look of real hardwood without the same level of cost and maintenance. Rooms with real hardwood flooring are stunning, but the maintenance and care can be a hassle for some. Luxury vinyl plank flooring brings the look of real wood floors with less maintenance in most cases.

Sheet Vinyl Flooring

Sheet vinyl flooring is one continuous piece of vinyl with a fiberglass backing that comes in large rolls. Large sheets of vinyl flooring are often installed with very few seams. In fact, if the room is small, like a bathroom or laundry room, one single piece may be used. This provides a floor that can be even more water- resistant and easier to clean

The benefit of very few seams in vinyl sheet flooring makes it not only easy to clean, but an ideal floor for rooms with higher levels of moisture. Step out of the shower without worry; warping or staining is not common. Sheet vinyl flooring has a strong stain-resistant topcoat to help keep the floors looking beautiful.

Repairs

Repairing sheet vinyl flooring can be more difficult than luxury vinyl tile and luxury plank. If the damage to the vinyl flooring is significant, a new vinyl tile or vinyl plank can easily be laid down to replace the damaged area. With sheet vinyl you would need to cut out a section or replace the entire floor.

Installation Process

A clean, dry, and level surface is needed when installing luxury vinyl tile, luxury vinyl plank and sheet vinyl flooring. With all vinyl flooring, any grooves or bumps in the subfloor will show and can damage the vinyl floors.

The main difference during the installation process is with sheet vinyl flooring, you are handling large sheets of vinyl that can be difficult to maneuver. Luxury vinyl tile and luxury vinyl plank are in smaller pieces, which are easy to lay down and work around vents and corners.

You will need to line up the luxury vinyl tile and luxury vinyl plank evenly to create a cohesive look. Sheet vinyl flooring has already completed this step for you, as the sheet vinyl is made to look like multiple tiles.
