Frieze Carpet Considerations

Frieze Carpet Construction

Frieze Carpets are characterized by tightly twisted fibers that actually kink at the top and create a highly textured surface. The distinct look of Frieze is achieved by winding the Carpet fibers together several more times than would be done on a Plush or Textured Carpet – the high number of twists cause each fiber to curl and spiral back on itself, giving it a coiled appearance. The resulting visual is a tousled, informal look.

Frieze Carpet Fibers

Each type of Carpet fiber possesses distinct characteristics. Fibers can influence price, color and performance. Your Sales Representative can explain your options for each style of Carpet.

Synthetic

  • Nylon: Nylon fibers naturally complement Frieze Carpet’s durability – the inherent durability of nylon along with Frieze’s twisted design provide a winning combination. Comfortable and classic, nylon Carpet is a popular choice because it can be topically treated to resist stain.
  • Polyester: Because it's naturally stain-resistant, polyester can be an exceptional choice for high-traffic areas in your home. The distinctive coiled appearance of Frieze Carpet takes advantage of polyester's soft texture. This carpet fiber is made from a compound known as Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) that comes from recycled plastic bottles.
  • Olefin/Polypropylene: While they are still in the molten manufacturing phase, olefin/polypropylene fibers are solution dyed with bright, resilient colors to resist fading throughout the luxurious pile of the typical Frieze Carpet. Olefin/polypropylene is well suited for a Frieze Carpet's shaggy profile. The stain-resistant fiber is durable yet handsome enough for the entire home.
  • Triexta: A relative newcomer to carpet technology, triexta is a polymer that combines durability and good looks for long-lasting beauty. As a soft, new fiber, triexta is at the same time luxurious and easy to clean. Accordingly, it is an excellent choice for Frieze Carpets because its springy feel is a natural complement to the tightly twisted fibers of Frieze.

Natural

  • Wool: Wool has been a favorite fabric for ages, and it is still just as soft and durable in a modern Frieze style. Warm and soft, wool Frieze Carpet from Empire Today® comes in a range of colors from elegant neutrals to bold, vivid hues. Wool is sumptuous, natural and very durable. This material can accentuate the existing suppleness of your Frieze Carpet's twisted fibers.

Carpet Padding

Tightly wound fibers of Frieze Carpet are springy but they also need a layer of padding beneath them for comfort. Padding can absorb impact and extend the life of your Carpet by cushioning the fibers as you walk on them. Plus, our rebond padding can reduce the noise levels in the carpeted areas of your home. Your Sales Representative can guide you toward the right padding for your Frieze Carpet. Some features of Carpet pads include:

  • Extends the life of Carpet and makes it more comfortable
  • Breathe Easy: Hypoallergenic and Green Label-certified for superior indoor and outdoor air quality
  • Infinitely Green: 100% recycled construction, 100% recyclable, and contributes toward satisfying LEED® building credits
  • Reduces impact noise to help make homes quieter
  • Manufactured in the U.S.A.

Carpet Care & Maintenance Tips

Although your Empire Today® Frieze Carpet is designed to be durable and resilient, you can further prolong its life by adhering to a simple cleaning and maintenance regimen.

  • Frieze Carpet needs regular vacuuming to look its best. Over time, soil can damage the coiled fibers, so pay particular attention to high-traffic areas. Vacuum your carpet regularly. In high-traffic areas, you may need to vacuum every day.
  • Before vacuuming you may use a carpet rake to loosen the Frieze Carpet's fibers as well as any dirt that has settled to the bottom of the pile.
  • In high-traffic rooms that feature Frieze Carpet, set down floor mats at entrance points to help avoid any unnecessary dirt buildup.
