Laura Mathews is a sustainability lifestyle guru from Chicago. From personal behavior to profession, she lives every moment trying to make her world (and the world of others she encounters) run earth-friendly and efficiently. Laura received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Spanish from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She also took courses at the Chicago Center for Green Technology, where she gained a better understanding of the many moving parts involved in making a home or business run sustainably. There, she received certificates in Low Impact Living and Building Sciences. Laura recently spent two years working at Blue Plate Catering where she proudly helped the company earn the title of first green certified caterer in Chicago just 15 months after the inception of their sustainability program. In her free time, Laura has combined her creative side with her passion for the environment by creating one-of-a-kind art pieces and furniture made from reclaimed materials through her company Miss Green Genes. She also loves yoga, cooking and spending time with her husband and dog.
