Decorating a Nursery...or Two - Part Two!
In our last blog post, we gave you a tour of the nautical themed nursery for one of our client’s twin baby boys. When selecting themes for these two nurseries, it was important to create two separate spaces, joined together by common elements. Our theme, “By Sea and By Air,” was the perfect way for us to build out two rooms each with their own “transportation” theme.

The second nursery has an aviation theme...

Like the nautical nursery, we used stripes on the wall, although in this room, we painted them vertically, instead of horizontally. The stripe detail gives the two rooms a common design element.

In one corner we have the rocker and ottoman, with a washable grey and white striped slipcover. Hanging above the chair are several colorful wooden airplanes, creating a fun focal point for the corner. Custom roman shades were designed with black out lining, and a grey and white striped ribbon trim detail. Above the window hangs a vintage wood airplane propeller.

On the opposite wall sits a large dresser with removable changing table top. By investing in a furniture piece like this, the client’s will be able to use the piece far past the diaper changing stage. The nursery furniture in this room has a rustic grey finish and is the same style as the white furniture we used in the nautical room. A series of nine vintage airplane plane prints hangs above the dresser.

Across the room sits the crib with custom designed vintage airplane crib linens. We had an artist paint clouds on the room’s ceiling, as well as a personalized medallion for the wall above the crib.  In the small niche beneath the window, a custom made toy box, upholstered in an indoor/outdoor fabric to combat stains, doubles as a cozy spot to read a book. To keep the room from feeling too serious, we used a mix of modern patterns, including stars, stripes and chevron, in various scales and sizes.

Like the nautical nursery next door, this room is whimsical, colorful, and fun, without being too babyish.  We’ve added elements to each room that are suitable for a newborn, toddler, and little boy so that the rooms can grow with the boys.
