With the new year in full swing, I thought it fitting to talk about the what’s hot in flooring for 2014. If you are planning to outfit a newly constructed home or remodel existing space with a fresh look, then consider one of these fabulous trends.

Wood Laminate
For some, laminate flooring is associated with being "cheap," but that is definitely changing within the interior design industry. Since advancements in technology have made it possible for laminate to mimic different materials, it is sometimes impossible to tell real hardwood planks from the laminate alternative. Wood laminate flooring is incredibly versatile, just like traditional hardwood floors, but it is a much more cost-effective solution for anyone on a limited remodeling budget. Since wood laminate is available in a variety of styles that replicate the color, grain and even texture of certain woods, you will be spoiled for choice. And you don’t have to update your home all at once. You can coordinate or contrast existing flooring colors and materials within your home.

Luxury Vinyl Tile
Over the past decade, there has been a resurgence of vinyl use in residential homes. While it never truly went out of fashion, new technology has improved the look as well as the installation protocol of this unique flooring material. Instead of having entire large sheets of vinyl, individual tiles are installed onto the floor. In addition, luxury vinyl is able to replicate the high-quality look of materials such as granite, marble, and even slate. The color variations and even the texture will mimic natural stone tile, which helps give your entire home a lavish and upscale appearance. Luxury vinyl tile also happens to very durable, and cleaning as well as maintenance is minimal in most homes.

Bamboo Flooring
When it comes to flooring in the home, few materials can compare to the energy-efficiency or sustainability of bamboo flooring. Although it has the appearance of a traditional hardwood, bamboo floors are actually made from a very fast growing grass. It is incredibly durable and constructed solidly to last for decades. Bamboo is moisture-resistant as well as incredibly attractive, which makes it a practical flooring choice as well as popular trend in flooring and home decor.

Whether you choose laminate, vinyl tile, or bamboo, all three are attractive, durable and trendy, making them a timeless choice as well as a fashionable one.
