Make Your Home Merry and Bright

Holiday lights are twinkling, gifts are being wrapped, and the scent of pine trees fills the air...it must be Christmas! It’s a given that I love to decorate homes, but add some Christmas decor on top of an already beautiful interior, and I’m in heaven! Many of my past clients call me each year to help them decorate their homes for the holidays. Sometimes it’s rearranging furniture so that the tree can take center stage, other times it’s getting the home ready for a house full of guests or a large party, but it’s always a great opportunity to add a little extra shimmer to a room.

It’s a myth that you have to spend thousands of dollars on holiday decorations (although retailers would like for you to think otherwise!), or rearrange your entire house just to decorate for the holidays. I love to find ways to utilize and decorate things that are already in the home.

Take the dining room chandelier...you might not think to decorate your chandelier, but look how fun this fixture looks with some garland, silver ball ornaments, and red velvet ribbon! Simply weave the garland in and out of the arms of the chandelier, hang some shiny ornaments from the garland, and tie a little bow onto each of the chandelier’s arms for a pop of color.

Now that our chandelier is festive and bright, we’ve added 2 small pine trees, wrapped a piece of burlap around each of their bases, and used the same red velvet ribbon to tie a bow around the base. Add some shiny red and silver ornaments to a bowl, and you have an instant centerpiece that’s not only festive, but also inexpensive and fun! We’ve chosen to use artificial garland and trees so that they can be reused from year to year, but live greens make a wonderful addition to any room.

The fireplace mantel is always a great place to create a warm and cozy display that showcases more than just your holiday stockings. To start with, we hung a holiday wreath over the large mirror that hangs year around above this fireplace. Using wreaths indoors is a great way to bring green and color to the interior of your home. In addition to the one hanging on this mirror, we also hung one on the inside of the home’s front door so that it can be viewed from inside the home.

The boxwood topiary trees decorate this mantel year round, so by tying a red velvet ribbon on to each stem, they feel like the perfect Christmas decoration. A simple strand of garland laid strung across the mantel, and plus some red berry candle wrings to decorate basic silver candlesticks, and this mantel is ready for Santa!

By making use of what you already have, you can spend less time and money on decorating, and more time cuddling by the fire with your feet up, a warm drink in hand, and your loved ones nearby.
